Back in August a marijuana grow operation in British Columbia made the news when investigators had to wait to clear out the bears just before they busted the place. As it turned out there had been 26 black bears hanging around the Christina Lake farm.
The bears had been not hanging around hoping to cadge some free herb nor had been the guarding the herb as 1st thought. They were there to chow down on some free munchies. Bags of dog food fed to them by Mr. Allan Piche (seen at left feeding bears) according to authorities.
Mr. Piche, who says he has been feeding the bears for years and and that he knew nothing about the marijuana grow, will likely be appearing in court in Grand Forks, BC on December 14th to face charges, not for the dope farm though. Mr. Piche is going to be facing charges of feeding dangerous wildlife and could possibly be fined as significantly as $100,000 and/or a year in jail.
What about the bears you may perhaps be thinking. Not to worry. This is Canada where people today dont freak out and demand that wandering wild animals be snuffed out of hand. The Environment Ministry has retrained the bears that had been within the area by gradually cutting back on the totally free dole, spreading it around a larger area, returning the bears to there natural schedule. Most of them have settled in for their hibernation cycle.
